Celebrating everyday magic

SIX MONTHS OF AUGUST

January 30, 2022

Our little baby Augie is not so little anymore, six months old on the 7th! I thought I’d take a minute to share a little update on what’s going on with him so here we go!

Age: six months

Stats: 19 pounds and no idea on his height because he doesn’t sit still long enough to measure him.

Nicknames: Augie, Goobie, Goober, Goobeata, and “Baby” which is the only thing Theo calls you.

Milestones: you are getting so strong! You have started sitting in your highchair and you tried your first foods this month! So far, you’ve had avocado (at our favorite Mexican food restaurant of course!), blueberries, banana, carrots, zucchini, chicken, mango, black and green beans. You LOVE food and cry when we take it away. You started sleeping in your crib this month and we started sleep training and you’re doing SO WELL! You love sleeping on your side. Two little teeth have popped through (at 5 months!) and you are always chewing on your hands. You roll over and love pushing yourself up and can scoot all around the floor!

Favorite Things: you are seriously the happiest most easy-going baby ever! You love to look at people and are always smiling. You love to watch your siblings and are noticeably excited when they enter the room. You also light up when you see Daddy and smile and laugh at him from across the room. Mama and Theo can get you to do full belly laughs and you are constantly being carried around by a sissy. You are always chewing on something, your hands or your favorite teething toys. You love sitting up and being a part of the conversation or activity. We can put you in the highchair in the kitchen and give you some toys and you’ll sit for an hour watching us cook, clean, or do school. You love baths and showers and get so excited kicking your legs in the water. You can reach for things, and you have started to blow bubbles and make babbling noises. You move your hands all the time like you’re twisting open a cap, kind of a little twirling of the wrist but super-fast and constant. Pretty much everything you do is cute and we’re all obsessed with you.

Least Favorite Things: being left out! 🙂 You always want to be where the action is and don’t like being left alone in a room. Mama is still your favorite, and you don’t like going too long without milk and snuggles from her.

We love you more than words could ever say, August Andrew! You make life so much better and every day with you is a gift! Happy six months!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 5, 2022

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday week! We had family in town and we got tons of snow, so we spent most of the week lounging at home in our jammies, rotating between Christmas movies and hot chocolate and sledding and snow days. We slept in, played games, made meals, and just had a wonderful low key and lazy holiday. As always, I think I’ll start and finish 42 projects just because Drew is taking a few days off but in truth, we really didn’t do much of anything (in a good way) and it was really what was needed. We’re now ready to start 2022 with a good reset!

We had a lovely New Year’s Eve at home with a few neighbors and my parents and we had a bonfire and toasted marshmallows and wrote down our wishes for the new year and tossed them into the fire. Then the neighbors went home and we rang in the New Year with pots and pan banging and cider toasting in our jammies. It was perfect! One of our favorite traditions is our tinsel tree where we take off all the ornaments and fill that baby with tinsel. I love it so much and never want it to come down.

I am always an optimist about a new year and love the changes and fresh start that come with it. I always feel ready to make some changes and to dream big and shake off old fears and worries. My goal for this year is to focus on what really matters, a happy and healthy home. We are in desperate need of some organizing and de-cluttering and fully plan to jump right in with that! We have a few exciting house projects planned and a few fun trips this year so we’re excited to hunker down and get serious with our budget again. Something that always feels so hard to start but sooooo worthwhile and good once you get going. I want to be more intentional with my time and what I allow into my mind and home. I want to say “yes” to my kids a little more and have fun and choose joy.

More new recipes, more trying hard things, more date nights, more patience, more laughing with my kids, more good books, more making out with my husband, more drinking water, more kindness.

Less of everything else.

We are always on board for a fresh start and I have a feeling 2022 will be all about that.

Happy New Year, friends! May it be the best one yet! XO

Christmas 2021

January 4, 2022

We’re already into the New Year but I wanted to do a quick little holiday recap before January comes and goes. This year, Christmas literally FLEW BY! Not sure if that was because we went out of town the weekend before Christmas, because we had lots of family in town, or because we have a new baby (or maybe a combination of it all) but whatever the reason, it felt like we blinked, and the holiday season was over! We spent several days with my family at Seabrook, a little town on the Washington coast and one of our very favorite places. Then came home a few days before Christmas and did all the last-minute things, including the Christmas Eve service at church and my very favorite tradition of seeing It’s a Wonderful Life on the big screen at the theater! Seriously the best Christmas movie and sooooo magical on the big screen. I bawl my eyes out every time! The Big Day was spent at our house with Drew’s family and my parents. The kids woke up early and were SO EXCITED to see what Santa had left them! We spent a relaxing morning eating cinnamon rolls and coffee on repeat while opening presents. Then we made the best Christmas dinner of all time, filet of beef with gorgonzola cream sauce, our go to always and such a hit! The whole day was lovely, simple, and wonderful. The day after Christmas we woke up to the most gorgeous snowfall and had a day of sledding and playing in the snow to top it all off! Such a special treat!

I wanted to share a few photos from our Christmas, honestly, I felt like I barely took any photos but hooray for my sister-in-law, Danielle, who was visiting and a professional photographer! She got some great shots, and let’s be real, her pictures are better than mine any day of the week!

A beautiful, messy, busy holiday season! Hoping you had the merriest holidays and are off to magical (and more organized) January! XO
